Session 2: Fun and Games

For someone broke the golden mould
That once made Barry John

— The Outside-Half Factory, Max Boyce

Wednesday 14th December, 1994

Blakely and Magariel search around for a bit, then decide to call in someone who knows the area a bit better; Atoziel, Ofanite of Destiny, occasionally masquerading as motorcycle courier Ed Smith. A brief phone call to "Ed's Travel" brought Atoziel to the scene, and the trio started questioning the down-and-outs in the nearby alleyways. They got lucky; one of the derelicts remembered being woken up by a car rolling up in the small hours of Tuesday. It was a dark sedan. Two people got out, one was large but he didn't really see the other, unloaded something from the boot and disappeared for a bit. Then they drove off. Even the application of money failed to bring out memories of the car's number plate; the derelict had been too far away.

(A number of the players used to work for EDS. "Ed's Travel" is apparently revenge for the EDS Travel department, which didn't)

Thursday 15th December, 1994

Investigations proceed apace, but with little immediate result. Atoziel, with typical ofanite attention span, goes and maintains his role instead.

Excel determines that he needs to bug Andrew McKenzie's lab and flat to find out what's going on after he leaves, since there is no immediate sign of demon infestation during the day. After a few misadventures (such as breaking into an office to use its phone rather than noticing the existence of public payphones), he contacts Boriel and the two of them cook up suitable listening devices. The plan is to use short range (hence very small) bugs, and to install a rebroadcaster in the lamp post outside the flats. The attempt to install the rebroadcaster that night is abandoned; the two of them pull up on Boriel's motorbike, buy a meal from the takeaway opposite, drive off, confuse themselves, drive back, pull up in an alleyway and are promptly asked by a policeman what the hell they are doing. They drive off rapidly without answering; fortunately the policeman fails to read Boriel's pristine number plate correctly.

Magariel visits Giuseppe's again in the hope of finding that teenager. The evening is even less successful than before, since this turns out to be a "men only" evening. Magariel wouldn't mind, but it's not very well done.

Friday 16th December, 1994

In the hopes of finding out something, Blakely causes DS Martins, who is in charge of the murder investigation, to arrange for him to visit the Weaver household. Oh, and he will have a young girl (Magariel's other vessel) in on work experience for some of next week, is that OK? Martins has no problem humouring the Doc, who is after all bloody good at forensics and might just find something.

During the evening, Boriel installs the repeater in the lamp post by the simple expedient of remembering that he has the Ethereal Song of Form. It's a metal lamp post, so it makes a lovely ariel. Due to a mistake in communications, he doesn't install the bug in the lab for Excel.

Saturday 17th December, 1994

Boriel gets a call in the morning from an Amanda Wood of 38 Beverly Road. Her TV has gone on the blink, and does he do call-outs? Boriel, or rather Barry John, is relieved that this isn't the police, and certainly does do on-site repairs. He drives round in his company van and quickly finds the loose modules in her cheap Sony. Apparently her son got a bit too enthusiastic in tapping it to get the picture to settle down. Being a Malakite and therefore as blind as a bat, Boriel fails to notice that Amanda rather likes him. As he is finishing up, the door is opened by a man who says excitedly "You'll never guess what's parked outside." The man is Alex Verison, and being a big rugby fan he couldn't fail to notice Boriel's role's name. Boriel fails to deny any interest in rugby when Alex invites him to join the local Sunday League team, the Ravenscourt Rangers. They are playing tomorrow, so why doesn't he come along and watch? If he's interested, they practice on Thursday nights, that'd be really great, he'll look forward to seeing him there....

Eventually Boriel escapes the barrage of enthusiasm. As he is packing his van — the one with "Barry John, TV Repairs" painted on the side — he hears a rather odd Disturbance. It emanated from the house, but doesn't seem to have come from any of the usual sources of Disturbance. Confused, he contacts Atoziel, who is something of an expert on the subject. The two of them ascend so as to have a long conversation in celestial. Eventually Atoziel concludes that it must have been cause by some sort of Discord, but he has no idea what.

That evening, all the local angels are gathered together in the Dog and Duck to discuss matters. Information is pooled, and they determine that the woman Helophel saw arguing with Alex in the office was Amanda.
