"Your kung fu is strong. You shall be a worthy opponent."— The Martial Artist archetype quote
— Feng Shui by Robin Laws
There is much planning for the assault on Giuseppe's. At the end of it, Boriel uses his combination of ingenuity, Remote Control and the Song of Ethereal Form to install a little insurance. He puts a radio-controlled device on Giuseppe/Harmash's car's brakes just like he did to Alex/Hezekiah, so that he can cause the brakes to fail whenever he wants.
Around lunchtime, Magariel (as Maggie) phones Jennifer to invite her out to a pizza and a show that evening; Magariel (as Ralph) can wangle tickets to the band playing at the Hammersmith Odeon, which just happens to be one of the ones that Jenny has as a poster on her wall. Jenny is enthusiastic, and agrees to round up the boys and make it a foursome.
Meeting up in the evening, the four of them have a good time eating pizza. Magariel is interested to meet Zack for the first time; he's a cute, likeable blond who smiles a lot, rather like an unsubtle Mercurian. He seems mostly oblivious though, wanting people to enjoy themselves and tending to believe that they do unless it's pointed out otherwise. Magariel also takes the opportunity to attune to Jennifer, learning that she is in medium term danger (a matter of weeks before something nasty happens). David does recognise "Maggie" from the club, but is satisfied that she was just out enjoying herself like everyone else.
Before the concert starts, Magariel apologies and leaves. She has some business, you know what these scientist types are like, no idea of what the time is, but she hopes to be back before the second half of the gig. Actually she visits the chip shop and swaps vessels again (she has been getting topped up on essence by her less profligate friends), since she has a nightclub to take out. Boriel arrived earlier, dressed in the most eye-smiting jacket and tie that he could find on the theory that people will remember the clothes, not the face. Atoziel and Helophel then arrive, Atoziel his usual bouncy self while Helophel has carefully been dressed up in a leather dominatrix outfit. Atoziel negotiates a good time for himself and his, er, friend with one of the bouncers, whose true name turns out to be Khimazad. Considering that Khimazad is most likely another demon, Atoziel points him out to Helophel using pre-arranged signals. Helophel, dispairing of ever understanding the Ofanite, kisses him briefly and resonates to get subtitles.
Deciding to wait, the pair are shown upstairs where three girls are awaiting their pleasure. Atoziel identifies one of the girls as a Habbalite, Azazel, largely by noting her use her resonance on him. She in turn identifies him as a celestial from the large amount of Essence he spent on his Will roll, and is bright enough to spot the signal that he gives to Helophel. Despite not knowing that it meant "Help! Help! Kill this one! Now!", she throws a Dark Desires at Helophel to keep her quiet. Sadly, Helophel makes her Will roll too, leans over apparently to kiss the demon, but instead spits acid and blows Azazel's head off.
There is chaos, pandemonium and screaming from the girls (and Atoziel). After a moment's shock, everyone upstairs starts heading for the emergency exits in various states of undress (dear me no, officer, I'd never go to such a place) while Helophel heads downstairs. She is met on the stairs by Khimazad, a Calabite or so it seems, and he in turn is boxed in by Boriel and Magariel. The three of them make short work of a relatively tough customer, finishing up with Khimazad being thrown through the door into the club, and Helophel then stamping and spitting acid on him. The assembled clubbers appeared to be half blind; they see her Numinous Corpus Feet as stillettos and miss the acid entirely, and just applaud as the dominatrix stamps off to the manager's office. Harmash is not an idiot, and is already out of his office window by the time that Helophel arrives. Sadly for him she is very fast, and manages to catch him; he tries to Celestial Motion out of there, but doesn't go nearly far enough and dies messily.
Helophel heads off down the alley while the other angels leave through the emergency exits; Boriel does take the time to ditch his garish jacket and pull on a random sweatshirt that someone left behind by way of a disguise. He heads off alone while Atoziel picks up Helophel on his bike and heads up to Bradford to establish an alibi of sorts. Magariel meanwhile sets everything up to look like a gangland killing as much as possible, leaving a bottle of acid in a nearby alley as if it were dropped in haste. He then changes back into Maggie and returns to the concert; she is alarmed to discover that Jennifer's state of endangerment has not changed at all.
Blakely has arranged meanwhile to be working late in the lab, you know how these scientists are, so gets to do the scene-of-crime forensics himself. This gives him plenty of opportunity to ignore inconvenient evidence (there isn't much, actually) and set the investigating officers firmly into the line of thought that this is a gang affair. It also allows him to set people to searching Giuseppe's car, finding Boriel's little device and also doing a very careful search of the boot for traces of Jane Weaver's body having been there.
