Mortals
Human beings, those most precious things in the Symphony. Once they're
house-trained, anyway. Here are those who have become entwined in the
campaign.
Charlie is a painter and decorator, and one of the mainstays of the
Ravenscourt Rangers. He is one of the five regulars at the Dog and Duck
after practices, and generally seems to be the voice of calm and rationality
for the group. If they are about to do something bloody stupid, Charlie is
the one who will point it out. They'll do it all the same, but at least they
know.
Brierly is the boyfriend of Melanie Herald,
and appears to be human. At least he has survived both
Atoziel doing background checks on him and
Blakely going round to visit.
A moderately big shot drug dealer that CI5 were waiting to capture at
Heathrow. Sadly he died in the crash — OK, so he actually died of
having his head caved in with by repeated blows with his own portable
computer, but the principle's the thing.
The only oddity concerning Cerrido's itinerary was that none of the London
dealers seemed to be expecting to meet him, although they were aware of his
impending arrival. Most curious, from CI5's point of view.
Sam is one of CI5's top agents, poached from MI6. A cool and collected
individual, Sam is partnered with the hot-headed Chris
Keel in a pairing that seems to have benefitted them both. Sam's
reputation as an 'iceman' is deserved; his time in the intelligence services
has left him very cautious and unwilling to show his emotions. Exposure to
his more energetic and emotional partner are slowly thawing him out, however.
Sam's particular skills are in the area of languages; he is fluent in French,
German, Russian, Italian and Spanish, and can make sense of several more. As
befits a CI5 agent, he is also a crack shot and a dab hand with lockpicks.

logs index for more details]
Jonathan Harris is the scrum half for the Ravenscourt Rangers, and more
mundanely an accountant. Slightly less obviously he is
J.J. Munroe's partner, and loves him deeply.
His nicely ordered existence has been upset of late. Jono has been getting
precognitive flashes, most recently of torture of
PC Justin Wells. He is finding it hard to
cope with this strangeness, and is letting it wear him down, something his
over-protective other half is finding very frustrating.
Bill is a sound recording engineer for the BBC, last found in the company of
ace reporter Trevor Mallen. Whether he
understood any of the cryptic conversation that he and the cameraman could
hear between Trevor and this weird Chinese
woman is entirely unknown.
Chris is one of CI5's top agents. A former Navy SEAL and trained pilot, the
American is now partnered with Englishman Sam Curtis.
Successfully, rather to the surprise of the both of them. Chris tends to
impulsiveness, but his partner's restraint is rubbing off on him. Why, he
hasn't stood on a landmine in months, now.
Chris' open and frankly rather bouncy appearance is just as much a mask as
his partner's coldness, however. He has depths that people don't notice at
first sight, and his skills at piloting and survival are unquestioned.

Owner of Langridge House in north London, and unusually the mortal Seneschal
of the Tether there (having a genuinely uncrackable role and not making a
Disturbance does make the whole thing more Secret, you see). Sadly he died
of overexcertion at Hamet's party there, some
while before the angels stormed the place.
[ For what little it's worth, Langridge is essentially ripped off from the
Feast of Blades scenario, making him SJG's copyright. The name got slightly
modified, that's all. ]
Andrew McKenzie (not Andy, please) is a pleasant young man in his mid
twenties, whose has aroused the interest of Heaven primarily by being too
darn good at researching into new and innovative approaches to lasers. For
this reason he has had Excel assigned to
check him out; McKenzie has already made great strides into developing useful
lasers with relatively low initiation powers, and appears to be making
inroads into the theory of the resonance effects that produce so-called
"force fields."
Since Excel was already employed by McKenzie as a lab assistant when he first
noticed the resonance effect, he has been forced to admit that McKenzie had
no detectable demonic input during the daytime. During the evenings,
however… it took Excel a long time to get a bug into McKenzie's apartment,
and the Seraph is very suspicious of Andrew's wife,
Shelly. She claims to be a psychic, after
all, which is enough to make any angel suspicious.
McKenzie currently owns both his flat and the flat below that he has set up
as a lab. He has been living off an advance on his inheritance — his
family has some money but is not hugely rich — and his wife's small
earnings, but this won't last forever. He's still looking for the
breakthrough that will make him rich, when he's not got himself wrapped up in
some interesting theoretical knot.
Malone is the current head of CI5, and has not thus far been observed by Our
Heroes. According to the reports that they have perused, Malone is ex-CIA
and stands for no nonsense. He has a reputation for omniscience (i.e. is a
trained observer), and is perfectly willing to fight for his people against
all comers, be they ministers of state or heads of other agencies.

Julian James Munroe is number 8 for the Ravenscourt Rangers Sunday League
rugby team. By day he is a family butcher. Slightly less publicly he is
Jono Harris' partner; they don't exactly keep it secret,
but they don't exactly shout it from the rooftops either. JJ is also one of
the regular fivesome that gets together in the Dog and Duck after practices,
along with Jono, Harry Rand, Charlie
Blake and Barry John.
Winger and (absent Alex Verison) captain of the
Ravenscourt Rangers Sunday League rugby team. By day Harry works as a
telesalesman, a good one by all accounts. He is certainly a good rugby
player, and is one of the fivesome that regularly get together in the Dog and
Duck after practices. A bit of a gung-ho type, Harry is a natural leader.
Hopefully he won't lead his friends into anything they can't handle.
Of course, it's possible that he already has. Harry, JJ,
Jono and Charlie have a secret
that they are keeping from the last of their group,
Barry John. Maybe it's significant that
before Barry joined them, Alex was the fifth drinker.
A Puerto Rican sorceror, Raposo carried the Dagger of Bithynia on its flight
from Miami to London. Fooled by the demon
Hamet, he used it on a killing spree in an
attempt to give himself the power of a god. In fact he was its last victim.
Stupid really, but that's sorcerors for you.
[ Robert Raposo comes from the Feast of Blades scenario pack ]
John Strang, peer of the realm, occult investigator, off-white sorceror and
curmudgeon of the first water. What more need be said? Various angels and
demons know him as a first class pain in the arse with a talent for
persuading them to leave people alone. They'd like to do some persuading of
their own, but Strang has a bit of a trump card. You see, Strang has
clearance from the Queen to do what the hell he likes (if you'll pardon the
phrase, ma'am), and there's a limit to what you can do to someone who will be
publicly missed.
Fortunately for Heaven and Hell, Strang seems to be as unforthcoming to other
temporal forces as he is to celestial ones. It seems that he is known to
Harry Malone for example, but there is no evidence that
CI5's agents are in any way informed about the War. In fact current evidence
suggests the reverse.
Mother of Jenny and Jane, Debra is a
fiction editor at HarperCollins. Of late she has been frequently away from
home, doing the party circuit and shepherding book signings, so perhaps it
wasn't too surprising that she was away for a few days when her eldest
daughter was killed. That her husband Tom was also away
was a bit more surprising to outsiders.
Debra comes across as a fairly unsympathetic woman, frustrated with her
disintegrating family relationships. She was also ridden by the same Shedite
that used her husband, who was making sure that the family disintegrated.
This has been stopped by the local angels, but it remains to be seen whether
the family will survive.
Twenty-year old daughter of Tom and
Debra Weaver, sister of Jennifer.
Deceased. Her body was
pulled out of the Thames from under Hammersmith Bridge on the morning of
Wednesday 14th December, having been placed there (ineptly) by Khimazad and
Harmash in the early hours of Tuesday.
Jenny is seventeen years old, the surviving daughter of
Tom and Debra Weaver. Her sister
Jane was killed by demons for reasons that have not been
made clear. Jenny is normally a bright girl, perhaps a bit mature for her
age but none the less outgoing and ready to make friends with people. A good
kid, as people have commented. She has weathered a lot of trouble recently,
with the death of her sister and her parents threatening to split up. Thank
God she has friends.
Jenny is usually seen in the company of one or both of her best friends (not
boyfriends, no, not really), David Wood and
Zachary Philpotts. More often than not
they are joined by Maggie Ryan these days.
Jenny is fully aware that all is not as it seems with Zack; she hasn't really
twigged that there is more to Maggie as well, but she will. Once she gets
over the shock.
Father of Jenny and Jane, Tom is a
sales executive whose job has him travelling a great deal. It's not unusual
for him to be away from the family home in Beverley Road, and when he is back
it's not unusual for his wife Debra to be away. This
has been something of a blessing of late as far as his daughters were
concerned, since relationships between the parents have been at best
strained.
When Jane was murdered, Tom was away. He stayed away for several more days,
as if he didn't care. He didn't, at the time, or at least the Shedite riding
him didn't care. Rock-climbing and being away from his wife were the only
things that really mattered, being alone so that he could be himself.
Fortunately for Tom, the Servitor of Factions in him has been dealt with in a
fairly emphatic manner, and at least one angel has taken a very personal
interest in putting his marriage back together.
Neighbours to the Weavers in Beverley Road (or Celestial Central as the
angels have started calling it), the Wilmingtons have lived in the area for a
long time. Arthur is middle-aged, but the party haven't actually met Mavis
yet.
Amanda has been a single mother since shortly after she moved out from her
family and stopped being a student. Her son David's
father didn't stick around for long, leaving her a bit stuck. Since David
has been at school, Amanda has been through a succession of temporary jobs
trying to make ends meet. It usually doesn't, so she has from time to time
gone out streetwalking for the extra cash. It wasn't fun, and she didn't
enjoy it, but she needed the money.
It was while she was out "working" that she met her current
boyfriend Alex Verison, a sales support person
for a telesales company (and a Balseraph of Lust, not that she knew that).
He's cute, fun, lives just down the street, and has been known to slip her a
few bob to keep her going. What's not to like? OK, so he's been a bit
erratic, and David's been sullen around him, but that's just boyish jealousy.
Besides, it's not like she hasn't let her eyes wander either. That TV repair
man was dead cute, for example…
Unfortunately Alex has moved away suddenly after a couple of mysterious
strangers came and took him
away. She knows he's all right — he has phoned her a few times
since then — but she's worried that she won't see him again. Despite
all she was expecting, it's not the money that matters, she wants
him.
David is seventeen year old resident of Beverley Road, a part of London that
is gaining a reputation for weirdness with the local angels. Every now and
then he shows signs of being stronger than he looks, his
mother's last boyfriend
was a demon (now redeemed), his girlfriend's sister has been murdered and her father
possessed by a Shedite, his best friend is
an Ethereal and his newest friend is a
Cherub attuned to him. He's only aware of
a tiny fraction of what's going on, but even that is enough to outweird most
people.
Fortunately David isn't most people. In fact, he's the sort of kid who on
being told that someone is stalking him immediately starts making plans to
catch them. He's also the sort to go out of his way to help or comfort a
friend, which is why he has friends to comfort him. Weird friends, in case
that wasn't clear.
Now if only his best friend wasn't also his rival for Jenny's
affections…
