Bloom Closet

Words: Rhodri James

For all those people still going "Huh?" out there; once upon not such a long time ago, an artist named Berkley Breathed drew a cartoon strip called "Bloom County", full of biting political satire, penguins and general fun. One of the characters populating Bloom County was Michael Binkley, a young wimp of epic proportions. Now read on...

	When I wake up alone in the dark, without a light,
	There's a zillion things I worry 'bout, that keep me up at night.
	My Dad says I imagine things because I stay up late,
	But I think that we've just got a failure to communicate.

		There's a nasty purple beastie creeping up towards my bed.
		There's a clumsy cockroach dancing on the ceiling overhead.
		They're coming out to get me now in ones and twos and threes;
		Let me welcome you to Binkley's Closet of Anxieties!

	Tonight I've got some taxmen hidden underneath my bed
	And a group of loonys looking for a Bhagwan as their head.
	My Dad says not to worry, just don't let the bedbugs bite --
	That's all very well for him to say but they're six foot tall tonight!

		There's a nasty purple beastie creeping up towards my bed.
		There's a clumsy cockroach dancing on the ceiling overhead.
		They're coming out to get me now in ones and twos and threes;
		Let me welcome you to Binkley's Closet of Anxieties!

	I keep on getting Ronald Reagan's worries here instead,
	While he gets all the monsters that are running through my head.
	But the worst thing that I've ever had to face from there is how
	I'm going to look to everyone else in twenty years from now.

		There's a nasty purple beastie creeping up towards my bed.
		There's a clumsy cockroach dancing on the ceiling overhead.
		But I can stop anxieties from making me feel bad;
		I get rid of every one of them by telling them to Dad!
