This isn't SF or Fantasy, but a BBC TV production about farming in the Welsh valleys written by an old boy of my school. My excuse for including it here is that it starred Gareth Thomas ("Roj Blake"). I wrote it when I was feeling particularly depressed; I had just started a new job that involved a weekly commute to Maidenhead, where I knew absolutely no one. I didn't drive at the time, so there was just me, this job that I was a little out of my depth with, and an empty hotel room.

Last of your family, in the city your sister is far away.
Dm C Bb Am G A
Blainau's cold without your parents there, ask her to come and stay.
Dm C Bb A
But she sends your nephew to you, a sullen and quiet lad,
Dm C Dm C Bb C Dm
Quiet too the man who greets him, and quiet the Welsh hills add.
Dm
Morgan, Morgan, found your family,
C Bb A
He can help you keep your joy.
Dm
Chains of old tradition binding him,
C Am C Dm
Making him Morgan's Boy.
Lee stays sullen in his loneliness; city boy tries to shirk.
Slowly, slowly he unfolds himself, starts at the last to work.
Soon he's proud to stand beside you, your boy, there for all to see,
And you too are proud to have him and proud that he's family.
Morgan, Morgan, found your family,
He can help you keep your joy.
Chains of old tradition binding him,
Making him Morgan's Boy.
Now th'Estate won't pass the lease to you, say that the farm's run down,
Say that you're not fit to carry on, you should retire to town.
You can't stand to fail your father by losing his every gain;
Man and boy have seen it family and family it shall remain!
Morgan, Morgan, found your family,
He can help you keep your joy.
Chains of old tradition binding him,
Making him Morgan's Boy.
One by one your friends start leaving you 'til there is Lee alone.
He stands proud though doubts are growing now you two are on your own.
Finally you see how you've bound him as parents bound you in debt,
And your last act gives him freedom, the freedom you can't accept.
Morgan, Morgan, saved your family,
Gave your life returning joy.
Now tradition's chains are broken, he's
Nevermore Morgan's Boy.
Nevermore Morgan's Boy.
