The New-Born King

Words: Rhodri James
Music: "Come Ye Knights" aka "The Rebel Queen" (Sheila Willis)

I like this tune. That's why I've used it for two filks now. This time, it's a Christmas carol.

Come you kings, your gifts a-bearing,
                Come you shepherds, truth declaring,
Come and see the joy we're sharing,
Come and see the new-born King.
Bring him honour, bring him glory,
Come in joy and swiftly hurry,
                Hear the ancient Christmas story,
Come and see the new-born King.

        Gentle Mary saw an angel,
Promised she should have a son.
Said he would be our redeemer,
Said he was God's chosen one.
        Mary meekly told the angel
"Let it be as you have said.
I am but a lowly handmaid
        To this way be visited."
She and Joseph went to Bethl'em
        At the Roman census call,
There in poor and humble stable,
Then was the Lord of All.

                Come you kings...

        Shepherds in the fields abiding
Saw the sky with angels swarm,
Heard them praising God and singing
That the Christ-child had been born.
So the shepherds left the hillside,
        Searched the town of Bethlehem.
Found him lying in a manger
Who was Saviour of all men.
Then they told the angels' message,
How that he should be our Lord,
Knelt in reverence at the cradle,
        Honoured, worshiped and adored.

                Come you kings...

Wise men in an Eastern country
Saw a new star rise on high,
        Knew it for a great king's birth-sign,
        Followed it across the sky.
Far across the land they travelled
'Til they reached the stable door,
Then they brought their gifts before him,
        Gold and frankincense and myrrh.
So at this time we rejoicing
Bring our gifts to Jesus Christ.
        Honour, glorify and praise him
        Who for us was sacrificed.

                Come you kings...
